Over the last week you may have read, seen or heard media reports about new City user fee charges for sports clubs like baseball and soccer. Lacrosse is no different. Your Toronto Beaches Lacrosse Club is facing a new user fee charge of over $20,000 for the use of the Kew, Monarch and Dieppe outdoor floors. User fees are a fact of life that your executive agrees with but timing is the issue. On Feb. 15 of this year the city sent us a letter informing us about this charge. This was totally unexpected and we were informed long after our 2012 budget was put in place. In fact we had two registrations before that letter arrived. The executive of TBLC have no problem with reasonable user fees as long as sports clubs are given adequate notice. In this case we were not. We want the City to waive or substantially reduce the fee this year. Next year these user fees will increase our fees by $20 to $40 depending on the number of children registered.
