2018 Season Coming Soon!

Our 2018 House League Program, Tyke through Bantam/Midget, will continue with a partnership with Reid Acton!

Reid Acton is on The Hill Academy coaching staff and brings with him an extensive lacrosse resumé.  Reid was a 2x All-American/2x All ECAC and team captain at Loyola University, Maryland. During his junior year, Reid led the defence to their first ever Division I National Championship. Before Loyola, Reid graduated from The Westminster School in Simsbury, CT.  Reid grew up in Toronto playing in the Toronto Beaches organization before being traded his final year of Junior A to the Orangeville Northmen.  In 2008, Reid competed on Team Canada for the U19 World Championships and won a silver medal.

Reid will be joined by fellow Beachers: Stephen Keogh (Rochester Knighthawks) and Damon Edwards (Toronto Rock) as well as Reilly O’Connor (Calgary Roughnecks) who is also from The Hill Academy.  Brock Sorenson (Toronto Rock) and Luc Magnan (Rochester Knighthawks) will round out the coaching staff.

We are very excited to have current National Lacrosse League players and Beaches alumni assisting with our house league program!

One night practice and game combined!

For divisions Tyke through Bantam/Midget practices and games will continue to be one 90 minute session per week: time slots are 6 pm — 7:30 pm and 7:30 pm — 9:00 pm. Your team’s time slot will vary week to week.  Locations rotate between the Bubble Sportscomplex next to Ted Reeve arena and Kew Beach box at the foot of Lee Avenue.  Reid and his staff will take turns running the practices at the Bubble and will be on site to advise our volunteer coaches during games.  Sessions at Kew will be run by our refs who also serve as practice coaches to help our parent volunteers.

Nights per division are as follows

Monday — Novice

Tuesdays — Bantam/Midget

Wednesdays — Kew Rainouts if required

Thursdays — Peewee

Friday — Tyke

Saturday — Soft Lax at 10am

Saturday — Paperweight at 9am, 11am, or 12pm

Sundays — Kew Rainouts if required

For the past 2 seasons we have implemented a ‘no cross checking’ rule in our lower age divisions (Paperweight, Tyke, Novice).  The goal behind this change was to provide an increased emphasis on passing and fundamental skills before progressing to the full contact game.

At the introductory levels, contact, known as ‘place-and-push’, is permitted.  For this season, we are pleased to have Reid Acton and his team to guide players in their understanding of how to deliver and receive this contact in a safe manner.  We will also provide introductory instruction on how to deliver and receive the next level of contact, referred to as ‘cross checking’.  This progression will provide players with the knowledge and skills they need to become confident, successful lacrosse players.

Also new this season, we will be implementing a 7-second rule whereby players will be able to maintain ball control for up to 7 seconds before they must pass to another player.  This will not only encourage passing and increase ball control skill development, but will help offset any advantage gained through reduced contact of the ‘place-and-push’ divisions.

Paperweight and Soft Lax for 2018!

Last year we offered two separate divisions for our youngest group – Soft Lax and Paperweight. We will continue to improve our program in 2018.

Soft Laxers, who are in their first year of lacrosse, will have an hour of games, skills, and drills with short half-floor scrimmages at the end of their session.  The focus for this group will be fundamentals, maximum ball contact, and fun!  Players in this division will use soft lacrosse balls and require only a helmet, mouthguard, gloves, and a stick.

WHO: players born in 2014
WHEN: Saturdays at 10am
WHERE: Kew box
REQUIRED: helmet, mouthguard, gloves, and stick
CONTACT: No contact; no possession rule

Paperweights will still have a 30-minute practice followed by a 30-minute game but games this year will be full floor!  Older players will benefit from this format as they start to learn the rules and flow of lacrosse. Players in this division require full lacrosse equipment.

WHO: players born in 2012 and 2013
WHEN: Saturdays at 9am, 11am, or 12pm
WHERE: Kew box
REQUIRED: full equipment
CONTACT: No contact; 7-second rule

We are pleased to offer pre-season development sessions that are open to all registered Paperweights. These are not Rep Tryouts, but a chance to get your Paperweight ready for the upcoming season.  There will be a session fee (TBD) payable in cash at each session.  Full equipment is required.
